The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework that sets the standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old in the United Kingdom. The EYFS was introduced in 2008 based on research and evidence about how young children learn and develop. One of the key advantages of the EYFS is that it provides a clear and consistent framework for practitioners to follow, ensuring that all children receive high-quality care and education.

Studies supporting EYFS

Research has shown that children who participate in high-quality early years education have better outcomes in later life, including better academic achievement, increased employability and reduced involvement in a crime. A study by the National Literacy Trust found that children who attended high-quality preschool were likelier to have better reading and writing skills at the age of five compared to their peers who did not participate in preschool.

Another study by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) found that children who took part in high-quality early years education had improved cognitive development and better social skills and were more likely to be ready for school. The EEF also found that the benefits of high-quality early years education were most significant for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping to close the gap in achievement between children from different socio-economic backgrounds.

In addition, research by the Institute of Education, University of London, found that children who have received high-quality early years education have better mental health in later life and are less likely to have behavioural problems.

The EYFS framework is divided into four main areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design

At Podar Education Network and Vardhman Podar Learn School, the EYFS framework provides a strong foundation for children’s future learning and development. We will provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can learn and grow at their own pace. Our experienced teachers will work closely with parents and carers to support each child’s needs and interests.

We are excited to bring the EYFS framework to Seoni and to provide children with the best possible start to their education. We look forward to welcoming families to our school and working together to give children the best possible start in life.

In conclusion, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework is an essential tool for young children’s learning, development and care. It provides a safe and stimulating environment for children to develop the skills they need to thrive and reach their full potential. It also promotes a strong partnership between parents and teachers and positively impacts children’s lives. Adapting the EYFS framework in our school will help our young students achieve their full potential in the future.
